Peeping Tom’s Mike Patton has ventured into the world of film as the voiceover for the menacing cannibalistic creatures in ‘I Am Legend’.

The film is based on the 1954 sci-fi novel by Richard Matheson and focuses on Will Smith’s character, the sole human survivor of a manmade plague fighting to survive against its mutated victims.

“It came out of the blue,” says Patton. “The film’s producers and sound people wanted the creatures in the movie to sound somewhat human, but not the standard. I guess what most movies in that genre use are pitch-shifted animal sounds and stuff like that. But they wanted this to sound closer to a human being, and they thought, ‘Why don’t we contact some musicians?’ I guess they called a few guys and they ended up with me.”

Patton compared his time recording the voiceovers to his improv gigs, the only difference being the film footage was in front of him on a screen to inspire him. “I improvised the whole thing over a four-hour whirlwind, and it was a lot of fun,” Patton adds.

“I’ve always been interested in film, so to get involved in any way in the genesis of making a film or music for a film is fascinating to me,” he added. “I sat there with my mouth open the whole time. To get a chance to do what I do and have it integrated into a gigantic project like that was pretty cool.”

Dave Grohl has revealed he can’t listen to Nirvana’s back catalogue because he is still pained by Kurt Cobain’s death, 13 years on.

The former Nirvana drummer said whenever he hears a Nirvana song he is transported back to the times when the band were in the studio.

“I immediately remember what it was like the day we recorded – the food or the fucking snowstorm. It’s like opening a box of old pictures and I don’t like to do that too often,” Grohl explains.

Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994.

In last week’s K! we gave you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into the making of the video for Bullet For My Valentine’s latest single Scream, Aim, Fire.

The Welsh metallers filmed the video in a Californian warehouse in mid-November next to a dock in Long Beach. “Obviously that meant that we had to stop Moose from breaking his armbands out and going for a paddle,” Matt Tuck tells K!.

The video was directed by Tony Petrossian who’s “worked with everyone from Slipknot to Avenged Sevenfold,” explains Tuck. “We’d actually worked with him before on our video for Tears Don’t Fall.”

The single will be released on January 21 and the album Scream, Aim, Fire will follow on January 28.

The new Lostprophets album looks set to be released in the summer, according to Ian Watkins’ recent blog on the band’s MySpace.

“We have 14 songs pretty much finished,” writes Watkins. “We are still unsure if we have a finished record though at the moment, and we still have a few more ideas. So us being us, we are going to maybe record a few more tracks because we are fussy, and don’t like putting filler on an album. So we’ll do that early Jan.”

The band have “lots of cool new developments” planned for 2008, but Watkins doesn’t give away any other information.

“I’m not gonna tell you too much, but hopefully it’s gonna be good times for both us and you. We are definitely expanding the LPS universe.”

Smashing Pumpkins are currently in the studio working on new material.

Despite touring for most of 2007 the band are not taking time off.

Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin said: “The tour was a rock rampage and now we are back in the studio recording some songs for a possible release worldwide.”

The Smashing Pumpkins’ European tour starts in January and the new material is expected to be released early 2008. It is not yet known whether the songs will be released as a full-length album.
